Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the Radeon R7 M260 should be quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 4550 512MB in general. (explain)

Radeon R7 M260 16000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 4550 512MB 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 3200 (25%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R7 M260 is a lot (approximately 258%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 4550 512MB. (explain)

Radeon R7 M260 17160 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 4550 512MB 4800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 12360 (258%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R7 M260 will be much (approximately 138%) more effective at FSAA than the Radeon HD 4550 512MB, and also will be capable of handling higher resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon R7 M260 5720 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 4550 512MB 2400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 3320 (138%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card can possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
