GeForce 930M vs Radeon HD 6750

Intro

The GeForce 930M has a core clock frequency of 928 MHz and a DDR3 memory speed of 900 MHz. It also makes use of a 64-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 28 nm design. It is comprised of 384 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6750, which features a core clock speed of 725 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1000 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit bus, and uses a 40 nm design. It is comprised of 720 SPUs, 36 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon HD 6750 should theoretically be much superior to the GeForce 930M overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 6750 64000 MB/sec
GeForce 930M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 49600 (344%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6750 is a little bit (more or less 17%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce 930M. (explain)

Radeon HD 6750 26100 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 930M 22272 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 3828 (17%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 6750 will be much (approximately 56%) faster with regards to AA than the GeForce 930M, and also should be capable of handling higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon HD 6750 11600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 930M 7424 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 4176 (56%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
