Radeon HD 6770 1GB vs Radeon HD 7750

Intro

The Radeon HD 6770 1GB has a GPU core speed of 900 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM runs at 1050 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 800 SPUs, 40 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon HD 7750, which uses a 28 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 800 MHz. The GDDR5 memory works at a frequency of 1125 MHz on this specific model. It features 512 SPUs as well as 32 Texture Address Units and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Radeon HD 7750 55 Watts
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 108 Watts
Difference: 53 Watts (96%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 7750 is 7% quicker than the Radeon HD 6770 1GB overall, because of its higher bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon HD 7750 72000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 67200 MB/sec
Difference: 4800 (7%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6770 1GB will be much (more or less 41%) better at AF than the Radeon HD 7750. (explain)

Radeon HD 6770 1GB 36000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 7750 25600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 10400 (41%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 6770 1GB is a bit (approximately 13%) better at anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 7750, and will be capable of handling higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon HD 6770 1GB 14400 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 7750 12800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 1600 (13%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
