Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 31 Watts
GeForce GTX 465 200 Watts
Difference: 169 Watts (545%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce GTX 465 is 256% quicker than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB overall, because of its greater bandwidth. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 102592 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
Difference: 73792 (256%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 465 should be much (about 345%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 26708 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 6000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 20708 (345%)

Pixel Rate

If using high levels of AA is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 465 is a better choice, and very much so. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 19424 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 3000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 16424 (547%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
