GeForce GT 210 vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM)

Intro

The GeForce GT 210 has clock speeds of 589 MHz on the GPU, and 800 MHz on the 512 MB of DDR3 RAM. It features 16 SPUs as well as 8 TAUs and 4 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), which features a core clock speed of 625 MHz and a GDDR3 memory frequency of 800 MHz. It also makes use of a 64-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 40 nm design. It features 160 SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

Both cards have exactly the same bandwidth, so in theory they should perform the same. (explain)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) should be just a bit (more or less 6%) better at AF than the GeForce GT 210. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 5000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 210 4712 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 288 (6%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) should be a bit (more or less 6%) better at AA than the GeForce GT 210, and capable of handling higher screen resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 2500 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 210 2356 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 144 (6%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
