GeForce GTX 1050 Ti vs GeForce GTX 275

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti comes with a core clock speed of 1290 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1750 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit memory bus, and uses a 14 nm design. It is made up of 768 SPUs, 48 TAUs, and 32 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the GeForce GTX 275, which comes with GPU clock speed of 633 MHz, and 896 MB of GDDR3 memory running at 1134 MHz through a 448-bit bus. It also is comprised of 240 Stream Processors, 80 Texture Address Units, and 28 ROPs.

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce GTX 275 should be just a bit faster than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti overall. (explain)

GeForce GTX 275 127008 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 114688 MB/sec
Difference: 12320 (11%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is much (approximately 22%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 275. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 61920 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 275 50640 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 11280 (22%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti should be a lot (approximately 133%) better at FSAA than the GeForce GTX 275, and also should be capable of handling higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 41280 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 275 17724 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 23556 (133%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface within a second. It's worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
