GeForce GTX 1630 vs GeForce GTX 950

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1630 comes with core speeds of 1740 MHz on the GPU, and 1500 MHz on the 4096 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 512 SPUs as well as 32 TAUs and 16 ROPs.

Compare all that to the GeForce GTX 950, which comes with GPU core speed of 1024 MHz, and 2048 MB of GDDR5 RAM set to run at 1652 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 768 SPUs, 48 Texture Address Units, and 32 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 1630 75 Watts
GeForce GTX 950 90 Watts
Difference: 15 Watts (20%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the GeForce GTX 950 should theoretically be a little bit superior to the GeForce GTX 1630 overall. (explain)

GeForce GTX 950 105728 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 98304 MB/sec
Difference: 7424 (8%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 1630 should be a little bit (approximately 13%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX 950. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 55680 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 950 49152 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 6528 (13%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 950 is a better choice, though not by far. (explain)

GeForce GTX 950 32768 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 27840 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 4928 (18%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
