Radeon HD 6790 134400 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6850 128000 MB/sec
Difference: 6400 (5%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6850 will be a little bit (approximately 11%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6790. (explain)

Radeon HD 6850 37200 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6790 33600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 3600 (11%)

Pixel Rate

If running with high levels of AA is important to you, then the Radeon HD 6850 is a better choice, by far. (explain)

Radeon HD 6850 24800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6790 13440 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 11360 (85%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
