GeForce GTX 465 vs Radeon HD 6750

Intro

The GeForce GTX 465 features a GPU clock speed of 607 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM runs at 802 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 352 Stream Processors, 44 TAUs, and 32 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 6750, which uses a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 725 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a speed of 1000 MHz on this model. It features 720 SPUs along with 36 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 6750 86 Watts
GeForce GTX 465 200 Watts
Difference: 114 Watts (133%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce GTX 465 should theoretically perform a lot faster than the Radeon HD 6750 in general. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 102592 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6750 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 38592 (60%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 465 is just a bit (more or less 2%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6750. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 26708 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6750 26100 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 608 (2%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 465 should be quite a bit (more or less 67%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6750, and capable of handling higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 19424 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6750 11600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 7824 (67%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
