GeForce GT 430 (OEM) vs GeForce GTS 450

Intro

The GeForce GT 430 (OEM) has a GPU core speed of 700 MHz, and the 2048 MB of GDDR3 memory is set to run at 900 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 96 Stream Processors, 16 Texture Address Units, and 4 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the GeForce GTS 450, which comes with GPU clock speed of 783 MHz, and 512 MB of GDDR5 memory running at 902 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is comprised of 192 SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GT 430 (OEM) 60 Watts
GeForce GTS 450 106 Watts
Difference: 46 Watts (77%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the GeForce GTS 450 should perform much faster than the GeForce GT 430 (OEM) overall. (explain)

GeForce GTS 450 57728 MB/sec
GeForce GT 430 (OEM) 28800 MB/sec
Difference: 28928 (100%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTS 450 will be much (approximately 124%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GT 430 (OEM). (explain)

GeForce GTS 450 25056 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 430 (OEM) 11200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 13856 (124%)

Pixel Rate

If using high levels of AA is important to you, then the GeForce GTS 450 is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce GTS 450 12528 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 430 (OEM) 2800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 9728 (347%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
