GeForce RTX 4070 Ti vs Radeon RX 5600

Intro

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti has a clock frequency of 2310 MHz and a GDDR6X memory speed of 1313 MHz. It also uses a 192-bit bus, and makes use of a 4 nm design. It is made up of 7680 SPUs, 240 TAUs, and 80 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 5600, which comes with core clock speeds of 1375 MHz on the GPU, and 1500 MHz on the 6144 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 2048 SPUs as well as 128 TAUs and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

Radeon RX 5600 150 Watts
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 285 Watts
Difference: 135 Watts (90%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti should be much faster than the Radeon RX 5600 overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
Radeon RX 5600 294912 MB/sec
Difference: 221184 (75%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a lot (about 215%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon RX 5600. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 176000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 378400 (215%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is the winner, and very much so. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 88000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 96800 (110%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
