GeForce RTX 3060 Ti vs GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti has core clock speeds of 1410 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 4864 SPUs as well as 152 TAUs and 80 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare that to the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, which features a GPU core clock speed of 2310 MHz, and 12288 MB of GDDR6X memory set to run at 1313 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is comprised of 7680 SPUs, 240 TAUs, and 80 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 200 Watts
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 285 Watts
Difference: 85 Watts (43%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti should perform a bit faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (Unknown) MB/sec
Difference: 516096 (-100%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is quite a bit (more or less 159%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 214320 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 340080 (159%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a better choice, by far. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 112800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 72000 (64%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
