GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB vs Radeon RX 7900 XT

Intro

The GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB comes with core speeds of 550 MHz on the GPU, and 800 MHz on the 768 MB of GDDR3 memory. It features 96 SPUs along with 48 TAUs and 12 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 7900 XT, which makes use of a 5 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 1500 MHz. The GDDR6 memory works at a speed of 2500 MHz on this particular model. It features 5376 SPUs along with 336 TAUs and 192 Rasterization Operator Units.

GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB 84 Watts
Radeon RX 7900 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 216 Watts (257%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 7900 XT should theoretically perform much faster than the GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 819200 MB/sec
GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB 38400 MB/sec
Difference: 780800 (2033%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 7900 XT will be a lot (approximately 1809%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 504000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB 26400 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 477600 (1809%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 7900 XT is superior to the GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 288000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB 6600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 281400 (4264%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
