GeForce RTX 4080 vs Radeon RX 6700 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 4080 comes with a GPU clock speed of 2205 MHz, and the 16384 MB of GDDR6X RAM is set to run at 1400 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also features 9728 Stream Processors, 304 TAUs, and 112 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 6700 XT, which comes with GPU core speed of 2321 MHz, and (Unknown) MB of GDDR6 memory running at 2000 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is made up of 2560 SPUs, 160 TAUs, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

The GeForce RTX 4080 should theoretically be much faster than the Radeon RX 6700 XT overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4080 734003 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6700 XT 393216 MB/sec
Difference: 340787 (87%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4080 is much (approximately 81%) better at AF than the Radeon RX 6700 XT. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4080 670320 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6700 XT 371360 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 298960 (81%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 4080 is superior to the Radeon RX 6700 XT, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4080 246960 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6700 XT 148544 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 98416 (66%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
