GeForce GTX 1630 vs Radeon R5 M330

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1630 comes with a GPU core speed of 1740 MHz, and the 4096 MB of GDDR6 RAM runs at 1500 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is comprised of 512 SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon R5 M330, which has a core clock speed of 1030 MHz and a DDR3 memory frequency of 900 MHz. It also features a 64-bit memory bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It features 320 SPUs, 20 TAUs, and 8 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce GTX 1630 should perform much faster than the Radeon R5 M330 in general. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 98304 MB/sec
Radeon R5 M330 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 83904 (583%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 1630 is a lot (about 170%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon R5 M330. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 55680 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R5 M330 20600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 35080 (170%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 1630 is quite a bit (approximately 238%) better at FSAA than the Radeon R5 M330, and should be capable of handling higher resolutions better. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 27840 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R5 M330 8240 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 19600 (238%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
