GeForce GTX 1630 vs GeForce RTX 2080

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1630 comes with core speeds of 1740 MHz on the GPU, and 1500 MHz on the 4096 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 512 SPUs as well as 32 Texture Address Units and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the GeForce RTX 2080, which uses a 12 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 1515 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM works at a speed of 1750 MHz on this specific card. It features 2944 SPUs as well as 184 TAUs and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 1630 75 Watts
GeForce RTX 2080 215 Watts
Difference: 140 Watts (187%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the GeForce RTX 2080 should theoretically be much better than the GeForce GTX 1630 in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 458752 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 98304 MB/sec
Difference: 360448 (367%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2080 is quite a bit (more or less 401%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 1630. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 278760 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 55680 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 223080 (401%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2080 will be quite a bit (approximately 248%) more effective at FSAA than the GeForce GTX 1630, and also should be capable of handling higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 96960 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 27840 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 69120 (248%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in a second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
