GeForce GTX 980 Ti vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 980 Ti features a clock speed of 1000 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1750 MHz. It also uses a 384-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 28 nm design. It is made up of 2816 SPUs, 176 TAUs, and 96 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which features GPU core speed of 2150 MHz, and 12288 MB of GDDR6 memory running at 2250 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is comprised of 2560 SPUs, 160 Texture Address Units, and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon RX 6750 XT should be 32% faster than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti in general, due to its greater bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 980 Ti 336000 MB/sec
Difference: 106368 (32%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT is quite a bit (about 95%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 980 Ti 176000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 168000 (95%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6750 XT is superior to the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 980 Ti 96000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 41600 (43%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
