GeForce RTX 2080 vs Radeon RX 6650 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 2080 features a core clock frequency of 1515 MHz and a GDDR6 memory speed of 1750 MHz. It also uses a 256-bit bus, and uses a 12 nm design. It features 2944 SPUs, 184 Texture Address Units, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6650 XT, which comes with core speeds of 2055 MHz on the GPU, and 2190 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 2048 SPUs along with 128 TAUs and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

Radeon RX 6650 XT 176 Watts
GeForce RTX 2080 215 Watts
Difference: 39 Watts (22%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce RTX 2080 should be a lot faster than the Radeon RX 6650 XT overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 458752 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6650 XT 287072 MB/sec
Difference: 171680 (60%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2080 is just a bit (more or less 6%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon RX 6650 XT. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 278760 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6650 XT 263040 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 15720 (6%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6650 XT is superior to the GeForce RTX 2080, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 131520 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 2080 96960 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 34560 (36%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
