GeForce RTX 2070 vs Radeon RX 6600

Intro

The GeForce RTX 2070 comes with clock speeds of 1410 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 2304 SPUs as well as 144 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6600, which uses a 7 nm design. AMD has set the core frequency at 1626 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM runs at a speed of 1750 MHz on this model. It features 1792 SPUs along with 112 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 6600 132 Watts
GeForce RTX 2070 175 Watts
Difference: 43 Watts (33%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce RTX 2070 should be 100% quicker than the Radeon RX 6600 overall, because of its higher bandwidth. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2070 458752 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6600 229376 MB/sec
Difference: 229376 (100%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2070 will be a bit (more or less 11%) more effective at AF than the Radeon RX 6600. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2070 203040 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6600 182112 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 20928 (11%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6600 is a bit (more or less 15%) better at anti-aliasing than the GeForce RTX 2070, and will be able to handle higher screen resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon RX 6600 104064 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 2070 90240 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 13824 (15%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
