GeForce 8800 GT 512MB vs Radeon RX 6600 XT

Intro

The GeForce 8800 GT 512MB has a GPU clock speed of 600 MHz, and the 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM runs at 900 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also features 112 SPUs, 56 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6600 XT, which features GPU core speed of 1968 MHz, and 8192 MB of GDDR6 memory running at 2000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 2048 SPUs, 128 TAUs, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
