GeForce RTX 3080 Ti vs Radeon RX 550

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti comes with core speeds of 1365 MHz on the GPU, and 1188 MHz on the 12288 MB of GDDR6X memory. It features 10240 SPUs along with 320 TAUs and 112 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 550, which makes use of a 14 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 1100 MHz. The GDDR5 memory is set to run at a speed of 1750 MHz on this specific model. It features 512 SPUs as well as 32 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Radeon RX 550 50 Watts
GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 350 Watts
Difference: 300 Watts (600%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti should in theory be quite a bit superior to the Radeon RX 550 in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 934297 MB/sec
Radeon RX 550 114688 MB/sec
Difference: 819609 (715%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is much (about 1141%) better at AF than the Radeon RX 550. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 436800 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 550 35200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 401600 (1141%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 152880 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 550 17600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 135280 (769%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
