Radeon RX 5600 vs Radeon RX 6700 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 5600 features a GPU core clock speed of 1375 MHz, and the 6144 MB of GDDR6 RAM runs at 1500 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also features 2048 SPUs, 128 TAUs, and 64 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 6700 XT, which has a GPU core clock speed of 2321 MHz, and (Unknown) MB of GDDR6 RAM running at 2000 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is comprised of 2560 Stream Processors, 160 Texture Address Units, and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 5600 150 Watts
Radeon RX 6700 XT 230 Watts
Difference: 80 Watts (53%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 6700 XT should in theory be a lot better than the Radeon RX 5600 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6700 XT 393216 MB/sec
Radeon RX 5600 294912 MB/sec
Difference: 98304 (33%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6700 XT will be quite a bit (more or less 111%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon RX 5600. (explain)

Radeon RX 6700 XT 371360 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 176000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 195360 (111%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6700 XT is the winner, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 6700 XT 148544 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 88000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 60544 (69%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
