GeForce GTX 1050 3GB vs Radeon RX 5500 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1050 3GB features a GPU clock speed of 1392 MHz, and the 3072 MB of GDDR5 RAM runs at 1750 MHz through a 96-bit bus. It also features 768 SPUs, 48 TAUs, and 24 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 5500 XT, which has core clock speeds of 1717 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 1408 SPUs along with 88 TAUs and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
