GeForce RTX 2080 Ti vs Radeon RX 5600 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti comes with a clock frequency of 1350 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 1750 MHz. It also uses a 352-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 12 nm design. It features 4352 SPUs, 272 TAUs, and 88 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 5600 XT, which comes with a core clock speed of 1375 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 1500 MHz. It also makes use of a 192-bit memory bus, and uses a 7 nm design. It is made up of 2304 SPUs, 144 Texture Address Units, and 64 ROPs.

Radeon RX 5600 XT 160 Watts
GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 250 Watts
Difference: 90 Watts (56%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti should in theory perform much faster than the Radeon RX 5600 XT overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 630784 MB/sec
Radeon RX 5600 XT 344064 MB/sec
Difference: 286720 (83%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is quite a bit (approximately 85%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon RX 5600 XT. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 367200 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 XT 198000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 169200 (85%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is superior to the Radeon RX 5600 XT, by far. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 118800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 XT 88000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 30800 (35%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in one second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card could possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
