Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB vs Radeon RX 470

Intro

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB makes use of a 40 nm design. AMD has set the core frequency at 750 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM works at a frequency of 900 MHz on this card. It features 160 SPUs along with 8 Texture Address Units and 4 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 470, which features clock speeds of 926 MHz on the GPU, and 1650 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 2048 SPUs along with 128 Texture Address Units and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 31 Watts
Radeon RX 470 120 Watts
Difference: 89 Watts (287%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 470, in theory, should perform quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 470 211200 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
Difference: 182400 (633%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 470 should be much (about 1875%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

Radeon RX 470 118528 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 6000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 112528 (1875%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 470 is the winner, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 470 29632 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 3000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 26632 (888%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
