GeForce 930M vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB

Intro

The GeForce 930M makes use of a 28 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 928 MHz. The DDR3 memory runs at a frequency of 900 MHz on this specific model. It features 384 SPUs as well as 24 Texture Address Units and 8 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB, which uses a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 750 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a frequency of 900 MHz on this particular model. It features 160 SPUs along with 8 TAUs and 4 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB should theoretically be quite a bit superior to the GeForce 930M in general. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
GeForce 930M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 14400 (100%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce 930M should be quite a bit (approximately 271%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

GeForce 930M 22272 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 6000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 16272 (271%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce 930M is a lot (about 147%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB, and also able to handle higher resolutions better. (explain)

GeForce 930M 7424 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 3000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 4424 (147%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in a second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
