Radeon HD 5750 1GB vs Radeon R9 380 2G

Intro

The Radeon HD 5750 1GB features core speeds of 700 MHz on the GPU, and 1150 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 720(144x5) SPUs as well as 36 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon R9 380 2G, which has a GPU core clock speed of 970 MHz, and 2048 MB of GDDR5 RAM running at 1425 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 1792 SPUs, 112 TAUs, and 32 ROPs.

Radeon R9 380 2G 190 Watts
Difference: 104 Watts (121%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon R9 380 2G should in theory be quite a bit superior to the Radeon HD 5750 1GB overall. (explain)

Radeon R9 380 2G 182400 MB/sec
Radeon HD 5750 1GB 73600 MB/sec
Difference: 108800 (148%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 380 2G is a lot (more or less 331%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 5750 1GB. (explain)

Radeon R9 380 2G 108640 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 5750 1GB 25200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 83440 (331%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R9 380 2G should be much (about 177%) better at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 5750 1GB, and also will be able to handle higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon R9 380 2G 31040 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 5750 1GB 11200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 19840 (177%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in a second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
