GeForce GTX 465 vs Geforce GTX 760

Intro

The GeForce GTX 465 features clock speeds of 607 MHz on the GPU, and 802 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 352 SPUs along with 44 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Geforce GTX 760, which makes use of a 28 nm design. nVidia has set the core frequency at 980 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a speed of 1502 MHz on this model. It features 1152 SPUs along with 96 TAUs and 32 ROPs.

Geforce GTX 760 170 Watts
GeForce GTX 465 200 Watts
Difference: 30 Watts (18%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Geforce GTX 760 should in theory be a lot better than the GeForce GTX 465 overall. (explain)

Geforce GTX 760 192256 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 465 102592 MB/sec
Difference: 89664 (87%)

Texel Rate

The Geforce GTX 760 is quite a bit (approximately 252%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 465. (explain)

Geforce GTX 760 94080 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 465 26708 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 67372 (252%)

Pixel Rate

The Geforce GTX 760 is a lot (approximately 61%) more effective at AA than the GeForce GTX 465, and also capable of handling higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Geforce GTX 760 31360 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 465 19424 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 11936 (61%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
