Radeon HD 5770 108 Watts
Radeon HD 7870 175 Watts
Difference: 67 Watts (62%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 7870 should be a lot faster than the Radeon HD 5770 in general. (explain)

Radeon HD 7870 153600 MB/sec
Radeon HD 5770 76800 MB/sec
Difference: 76800 (100%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 7870 is quite a bit (more or less 135%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 5770. (explain)

Radeon HD 7870 80000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 5770 34000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 46000 (135%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 7870 should be quite a bit (about 135%) faster with regards to FSAA than the Radeon HD 5770, and also will be capable of handling higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon HD 7870 32000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 5770 13600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 18400 (135%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
