Radeon HD 6770 1GB vs Radeon HD 7770

Intro

The Radeon HD 6770 1GB has clock speeds of 900 MHz on the GPU, and 1050 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 800 SPUs as well as 40 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 7770, which has a core clock frequency of 1000 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1125 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 28 nm design. It is made up of 640 SPUs, 40 Texture Address Units, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 7770 80 Watts
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 108 Watts
Difference: 28 Watts (35%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon HD 7770 should in theory perform a little bit faster than the Radeon HD 6770 1GB overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 7770 72000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 67200 MB/sec
Difference: 4800 (7%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 7770 is a small bit (more or less 11%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6770 1GB. (explain)

Radeon HD 7770 40000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 36000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 4000 (11%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 7770 will be a small bit (approximately 11%) more effective at anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6770 1GB, and also should be capable of handling higher screen resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon HD 7770 16000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 14400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 1600 (11%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.

seems legit , only ~9% difference...

and 7770 is about the same as GTX 460, of course in game benchmarks.
so i guess its not bad card...
