Radeon HD 5670 vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB

Intro

The Radeon HD 5670 uses a 40 nm design. AMD has set the core speed at 775 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a speed of 1000 MHz on this specific model. It features 400(80x5) SPUs as well as 20 TAUs and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB, which comes with clock speeds of 650 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR3 memory. It features 480 SPUs along with 24 TAUs and 8 ROPs.

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 50 Watts
Radeon HD 5670 61 Watts
Difference: 11 Watts (22%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon HD 5670 should theoretically be quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 5670 64000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
Difference: 35200 (122%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB should be just a bit (about 1%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 5670. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 15600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 5670 15500 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 100 (1%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 5670 will be a small bit (approximately 19%) better at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB, and will be able to handle higher resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon HD 5670 6200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 5200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 1000 (19%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
