GeForce GT 210 vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB

Intro

The GeForce GT 210 comes with a core clock speed of 589 MHz and a DDR3 memory speed of 800 MHz. It also makes use of a 64-bit bus, and makes use of a 40 nm design. It is made up of 16 SPUs, 8 Texture Address Units, and 4 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB, which features core clock speeds of 750 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 160 SPUs along with 8 Texture Address Units and 4 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB should theoretically be a lot better than the GeForce GT 210 overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
GeForce GT 210 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 16000 (125%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB will be a lot (more or less 27%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GT 210. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 6000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 210 4712 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 1288 (27%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB is quite a bit (approximately 27%) better at full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce GT 210, and will be capable of handling higher screen resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 3000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 210 2356 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 644 (27%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
