Radeon HD 3650 256MB vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM)

Intro

The Radeon HD 3650 256MB makes use of a 55 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 725 MHz. The DDR2 RAM is set to run at a frequency of 800 MHz on this specific card. It features 120(24x5) SPUs as well as 8 Texture Address Units and 4 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), which has core clock speeds of 625 MHz on the GPU, and 800 MHz on the 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM. It features 160 SPUs along with 8 TAUs and 4 ROPs.

Radeon HD 3650 256MB 78 Watts
Difference: 47 Watts (152%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon HD 3650 256MB should be quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 3650 256MB 25600 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 12800 (100%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 3650 256MB will be a little bit (about 16%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon HD 3650 256MB 5800 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 5000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 800 (16%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 3650 256MB will be a bit (approximately 16%) faster with regards to anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), and also will be able to handle higher resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon HD 3650 256MB 2900 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 2500 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 400 (16%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
