GeForce GT 210 vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM)

Intro

The GeForce GT 210 features a core clock speed of 589 MHz and a DDR3 memory frequency of 800 MHz. It also features a 64-bit bus, and uses a 40 nm design. It is comprised of 16 SPUs, 8 Texture Address Units, and 4 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), which features core clock speeds of 625 MHz on the GPU, and 800 MHz on the 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM. It features 160 SPUs along with 8 Texture Address Units and 4 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

Both cards have the exact same memory bandwidth, so theoretically they should perform the same. (explain)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) should be a bit (about 6%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GT 210. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 5000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 210 4712 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 288 (6%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) is just a bit (about 6%) faster with regards to AA than the GeForce GT 210, and should be capable of handling higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 2500 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 210 2356 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 144 (6%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in a second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
