Compare any two graphics cards:
GeForce GTX 550 Ti vs Radeon HD 6790
IntroThe GeForce GTX 550 Ti features a GPU core speed of 900 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory is set to run at 1026 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is comprised of 192 Stream Processors, 32 TAUs, and 24 Raster Operation Units.Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 6790, which uses a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 840 MHz. The GDDR5 memory runs at a frequency of 1050 MHz on this specific model. It features 800 SPUs as well as 40 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

BenchmarksThese are real-world performance benchmarks that were submitted by Hardware Compare users. The scores seen here are the average of all benchmarks submitted for each respective test and hardware.
3DMark Fire Strike Graphics Score
Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthTheoretically speaking, the Radeon HD 6790 is 36% quicker than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti overall, due to its greater data rate. (explain)
Texel RateThe Radeon HD 6790 will be just a bit (more or less 17%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. (explain)
Pixel RateIf using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 550 Ti is the winner, and very much so. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
