GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB vs GeForce GTX 560 Ti

Intro

The GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB features clock speeds of 650 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 512 MB of GDDR3 memory. It features 96 SPUs along with 48 Texture Address Units and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the GeForce GTX 560 Ti, which uses a 40 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 822 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a speed of 1002 MHz on this model. It features 384 SPUs along with 64 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce GTX 560 Ti should perform quite a bit faster than the GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB overall. (explain)

GeForce GTX 560 Ti 128256 MB/sec
GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB 57600 MB/sec
Difference: 70656 (123%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 560 Ti is quite a bit (more or less 69%) better at AF than the GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 560 Ti 52608 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB 31200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 21408 (69%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 560 Ti is a lot (more or less 153%) faster with regards to AA than the GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB, and also will be able to handle higher screen resolutions better. (explain)

GeForce GTX 560 Ti 26304 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB 10400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 15904 (153%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
