GeForce RTX 4070 Ti vs Radeon RX 470

Intro

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti has a clock frequency of 2310 MHz and a GDDR6X memory speed of 1313 MHz. It also makes use of a 192-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 4 nm design. It is comprised of 7680 SPUs, 240 TAUs, and 80 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 470, which has a core clock speed of 926 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1650 MHz. It also features a 256-bit bus, and uses a 14 nm design. It is made up of 2048 SPUs, 128 Texture Address Units, and 32 Raster Operation Units.

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti should perform quite a bit faster than the Radeon RX 470 in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
Radeon RX 470 211200 MB/sec
Difference: 304896 (144%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti should be quite a bit (approximately 368%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon RX 470. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 470 118528 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 435872 (368%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti will be quite a bit (approximately 524%) more effective at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon RX 470, and also will be capable of handling higher resolutions better. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 470 29632 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 155168 (524%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
