GeForce GTX 1050 Ti vs GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti has a core clock speed of 1290 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1750 MHz. It also makes use of a 128-bit memory bus, and uses a 14 nm design. It is comprised of 768 SPUs, 48 Texture Address Units, and 32 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all of that to the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, which uses a 8 nm design. nVidia has set the core frequency at 1575 MHz. The GDDR6X RAM works at a speed of 1188 MHz on this particular card. It features 6144 SPUs as well as 192 Texture Address Units and 96 Rasterization Operator Units.

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, in theory, should perform a lot faster than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 622899 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 114688 MB/sec
Difference: 508211 (443%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti will be a lot (approximately 388%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 302400 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 61920 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 240480 (388%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti will be much (about 266%) better at full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, and also able to handle higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 151200 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 41280 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 109920 (266%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
