GeForce GTX 1070 Ti vs GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1070 Ti comes with a clock frequency of 1607 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 2000 MHz. It also features a 256-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 16 nm design. It is made up of 2432 SPUs, 152 Texture Address Units, and 64 ROPs.

Compare all that to the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, which features GPU clock speed of 1575 MHz, and 8192 MB of GDDR6X RAM running at 1188 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 6144 SPUs, 192 TAUs, and 96 Raster Operation Units.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
