GeForce 830M vs Radeon RX 6900 XT

Intro

The GeForce 830M comes with a clock frequency of 1029 MHz and a DDR3 memory frequency of 900 MHz. It also makes use of a 64-bit bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It is made up of 256 SPUs, 16 Texture Address Units, and 8 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which uses a 7 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 1825 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM is set to run at a frequency of 2000 MHz on this card. It features 5120 SPUs along with 320 TAUs and 128 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce 830M 25 Watts
Radeon RX 6900 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 275 Watts (1100%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 6900 XT should theoretically perform quite a bit faster than the GeForce 830M in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 524288 MB/sec
GeForce 830M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 509888 (3541%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT will be a lot (about 3447%) more effective at texture filtering than the GeForce 830M. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 584000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 830M 16464 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 567536 (3447%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT is much (about 2738%) more effective at anti-aliasing than the GeForce 830M, and also should be able to handle higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 830M 8232 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 225368 (2738%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
