Radeon RX 560 vs Radeon RX 6800

Intro

The Radeon RX 560 features a core clock frequency of 1175 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1750 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit bus, and uses a 14 nm design. It is comprised of 1024 SPUs, 64 Texture Address Units, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 6800, which features a GPU core clock speed of 1700 MHz, and 16384 MB of GDDR6 RAM set to run at 2000 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also features 3840 SPUs, 240 TAUs, and 96 Raster Operation Units.

The Radeon RX 6800 should in theory perform much faster than the Radeon RX 560 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 524288 MB/sec
Radeon RX 560 114688 MB/sec
Difference: 409600 (357%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 should be a lot (more or less 443%) better at AF than the Radeon RX 560. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 408000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 560 75200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 332800 (443%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 should be a lot (more or less 768%) better at FSAA than the Radeon RX 560, and capable of handling higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 163200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 560 18800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 144400 (768%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card could possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
