GeForce 930M vs Radeon RX 5600 XT

Intro

The GeForce 930M makes use of a 28 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 928 MHz. The DDR3 RAM is set to run at a speed of 900 MHz on this particular model. It features 384 SPUs along with 24 Texture Address Units and 8 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 5600 XT, which comes with clock speeds of 1375 MHz on the GPU, and 1500 MHz on the 6144 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 2304 SPUs along with 144 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon RX 5600 XT is 2289% quicker than the GeForce 930M in general, because of its greater bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 344064 MB/sec
GeForce 930M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 329664 (2289%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 XT is a lot (approximately 789%) better at AF than the GeForce 930M. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 198000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 930M 22272 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 175728 (789%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 XT is a lot (more or less 1085%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce 930M, and will be able to handle higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 88000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 930M 7424 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 80576 (1085%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
