GeForce RTX 2080 Ti vs Radeon R7 M360

Intro

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti comes with a core clock speed of 1350 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 1750 MHz. It also features a 352-bit bus, and uses a 12 nm design. It features 4352 SPUs, 272 TAUs, and 88 Raster Operation Units.

Compare that to the Radeon R7 M360, which comes with GPU core speed of 1125 MHz, and 2048 MB of DDR3 memory running at 1000 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also features 384 SPUs, 24 Texture Address Units, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti should theoretically be quite a bit superior to the Radeon R7 M360 in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 630784 MB/sec
Radeon R7 M360 16000 MB/sec
Difference: 614784 (3842%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is quite a bit (more or less 1260%) better at AF than the Radeon R7 M360. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 367200 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R7 M360 27000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 340200 (1260%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is the winner, by far. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 118800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R7 M360 9000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 109800 (1220%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. It is worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
