GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB vs Nvidia Titan Xp

Intro

The GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB comes with core clock speeds of 550 MHz on the GPU, and 800 MHz on the 768 MB of GDDR3 memory. It features 96 SPUs as well as 48 TAUs and 12 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Nvidia Titan Xp, which makes use of a 16 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 1582 MHz. The GDDR5X memory works at a frequency of 1426 MHz on this particular card. It features 3840 SPUs along with 240 Texture Address Units and 96 ROPs.

Theoretically speaking, the Nvidia Titan Xp will be 1361% quicker than the GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB in general, due to its greater data rate. (explain)

Nvidia Titan Xp 560845 MB/sec
GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB 38400 MB/sec
Difference: 522445 (1361%)

Texel Rate

The Nvidia Titan Xp will be a lot (more or less 1338%) more effective at AF than the GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB. (explain)

Nvidia Titan Xp 379680 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB 26400 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 353280 (1338%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Nvidia Titan Xp is superior to the GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB, by far. (explain)

Nvidia Titan Xp 151872 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB 6600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 145272 (2201%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
