Radeon HD 6770 vs Radeon RX 570

Intro

The Radeon HD 6770 makes use of a 40 nm design. AMD has set the core speed at 900 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM works at a speed of 1050 MHz on this specific card. It features 800 SPUs along with 40 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 570, which features a GPU core clock speed of 1168 MHz, and 4096 MB of GDDR5 RAM set to run at 1750 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 2048 Stream Processors, 128 Texture Address Units, and 32 ROPs.

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 570 is 241% faster than the Radeon HD 6770 overall, because of its greater data rate. (explain)

Radeon RX 570 229376 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6770 67200 MB/sec
Difference: 162176 (241%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 570 will be much (approximately 315%) more effective at AF than the Radeon HD 6770. (explain)

Radeon RX 570 149504 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6770 36000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 113504 (315%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 570 is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon RX 570 37376 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6770 14400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 22976 (160%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
