Radeon HD 5450 vs Radeon RX 460 2GB

Intro

The Radeon HD 5450 features a GPU clock speed of 650 MHz, and the 512 MB of DDR3 memory runs at 800 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is made up of 80(16x5) SPUs, 8 Texture Address Units, and 4 Raster Operation Units.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 460 2GB, which comes with a core clock frequency of 1090 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1750 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit memory bus, and uses a 14 nm design. It is comprised of 896 SPUs, 56 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Radeon HD 5450 19 Watts
Radeon RX 460 2GB 75 Watts
Difference: 56 Watts (295%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 460 2GB should be quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 5450 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 460 2GB 112000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 5450 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 99200 (775%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 460 2GB should be much (approximately 1074%) better at AF than the Radeon HD 5450. (explain)

Radeon RX 460 2GB 61040 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 5450 5200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 55840 (1074%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 460 2GB is quite a bit (about 571%) better at AA than the Radeon HD 5450, and should be able to handle higher screen resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon RX 460 2GB 17440 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 5450 2600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 14840 (571%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
