Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) vs Radeon R9 M370X

Intro

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) features a GPU core speed of 625 MHz, and the 512 MB of GDDR3 memory runs at 800 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is comprised of 160 SPUs, 8 Texture Address Units, and 4 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon R9 M370X, which uses a 28 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 800 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a speed of 1125 MHz on this particular model. It features 640 SPUs along with 40 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon R9 M370X should in theory perform much faster than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) overall. (explain)

Radeon R9 M370X 72000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 59200 (463%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 M370X will be quite a bit (about 540%) more effective at AF than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon R9 M370X 32000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 5000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 27000 (540%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R9 M370X will be a lot (more or less 412%) faster with regards to anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), and also will be capable of handling higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon R9 M370X 12800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 2500 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 10300 (412%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
