GeForce 930M vs Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB

Intro

The GeForce 930M has a clock frequency of 928 MHz and a DDR3 memory frequency of 900 MHz. It also uses a 64-bit bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It is made up of 384 SPUs, 24 Texture Address Units, and 8 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB, which makes use of a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 800 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM works at a frequency of 1000 MHz on this card. It features 480 SPUs as well as 24 Texture Address Units and 8 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB should be 344% quicker than the GeForce 930M in general, due to its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 64000 MB/sec
GeForce 930M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 49600 (344%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce 930M is a little bit (approximately 16%) better at AF than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

GeForce 930M 22272 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 19200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 3072 (16%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce 930M is a small bit (approximately 16%) better at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB, and also will be capable of handling higher resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

GeForce 930M 7424 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 6400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 1024 (16%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface within a second. It's worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
