GeForce GTX 470 vs GeForce GTX 750 Ti

Intro

The GeForce GTX 470 makes use of a 40 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 607 MHz. The GDDR5 memory works at a frequency of 837 MHz on this particular card. It features 448 SPUs as well as 56 TAUs and 40 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the GeForce GTX 750 Ti, which comes with a GPU core clock speed of 1020 MHz, and 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory set to run at 1350 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 640 Stream Processors, 40 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

GeForce GTX 470 133920 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 750 Ti 86400 MB/sec
Difference: 47520 (55%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 750 Ti is just a bit (approximately 20%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 470. (explain)

GeForce GTX 750 Ti 40800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 470 33992 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 6808 (20%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 470 is quite a bit (approximately 49%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce GTX 750 Ti, and able to handle higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

GeForce GTX 470 24280 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 750 Ti 16320 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 7960 (49%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card could possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
