Radeon HD 3690/3830 vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM)

Intro

The Radeon HD 3690/3830 features core clock speeds of 668 MHz on the GPU, and 828 MHz on the 256 MB of GDDR3 memory. It features 320(64x5) SPUs as well as 16 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), which features a GPU core clock speed of 625 MHz, and 512 MB of GDDR3 memory set to run at 800 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is made up of 160 SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 ROPs.

Radeon HD 3690/3830 75 Watts
Difference: 44 Watts (142%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon HD 3690/3830, in theory, should be quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) in general. (explain)

Radeon HD 3690/3830 26496 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 13696 (107%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 3690/3830 will be quite a bit (approximately 114%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon HD 3690/3830 10688 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 5000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 5688 (114%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 3690/3830 is much (about 328%) faster with regards to AA than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), and also should be able to handle higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon HD 3690/3830 10688 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 2500 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 8188 (328%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
